Mission

The mission of Koali Niu is to create a gene-bank for the endangered original varieties of Hawaiian niu (coconut diversity). 

The Hawaiian niu as well as the associated knowledge is at a critical tipping point and will be lost if a culturally appropriate scientific intervention is not made immediately. We hope to solve this issue by having the very first niu gene bank and educational center on Maui.
