Koali Niu Board President–James Freudenburgh-Pu

Born and raised in Hāna, James is deeply connected to the land and ocean that sustain our community. A graduate of Hāna High School, he spent over 15 years working with Ma Ka Hana Ka ‘Ike, gaining hands-on experience in traditional skills and community-based education. As a father, husband, and waterman, he cherishes the ocean and the resources that our environment provides, always striving to protect and honor them for future generations. Through Koali Niu, James is committed to preserving Hawaiian traditions, fostering stewardship, and strengthening our connection to the ‘āina and kai.
